PAUL G. (GERE) JOHANSING

JUNE 30, 1943-JULY 15, 2025

Paul G. (Gere) Johansing passed away early in the morning on July 15 at Jasmin Terrace in Pasadena where he had been living for nearly two years. Loving family members were at Gere’s bedside when he passed.

He was born to Paul and Bette Johansing and was raised in an active Pasadena family with his 5 sisters (Pamela, Tina, Kim, Tracy, and Gretchen) and his 3 brothers (Tony, Duffy, and Drew).

Gere attended St. Andrew’s Elementary School before entering Villanova High School, where he lettered in varsity tennis. From there he went north to Santa Clara University, but it was at Pasadena City College was where he found the science studies program he wanted. It provided him the opportunity to further his knowledge of geology and to participate in their geological field trips in the deserts of California and Arizona.

Quiet time for Gere was an anomaly, but busy time for him was his normal! He did take up classical guitar, enjoyed it and became quite good. He also pursued his interest in sports car racing at the local California tracks and mingled with people in the pits.

He was Imaginative, passionate and creative with new thoughts and ideas. Even later in life he was encouraged to become an entrepreneur. This allowed him to focus on creating and developing environmental technologies and his own company which had been a longtime dream.

Gere shared his last 25 years with his wonderful wife, Xiaodan, in their home in Escondido. They enjoyed hiking and traveling together. His Catholic faith was also important to him and he shared that with Xiaodan.

He is survived by his wife, Xiaodan, his eight children (Tabatha, Paul, Tammy, Alexis, James, John, Matthew, and Michaela), his fifteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Gere will be forever missed by his family and friends.
