Janice Karin Larson

Janice Karin Larson, 82, of Springfield, died at 10:53 pm, Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village.  She was born in Boston, MA on August 6, 1939.  She grew up with her mother and step-father.  She left Boston during her under-graduate years.  She attended Blackburn College for the first two years of her college education. Later, she attended Florida State University during her two graduate level years.

Janice is survived by her husband, Brad Engert; brother, James Doherty of Deritter, LA; two nieces, Kari Ann Groome and Jacki Postale and nephew, Joey Porschart.

She worked for the Springield School District for 20 years and for the Sangamon County Schools for 2 years.  She lived in Illinois for 23 years but always considered Boston as her home.

Janice was an independent thinker who always looked for ways to help children and their families.  As a school social worker, she often saw children’s needs as a bigger force than her job obligations.  She could be confrontational and forceful when needed.  She could be loving and insightful when working with children.  She was a rare combination of love and justice.

Janice was married to Brad Enger for 25 years. They frequently travelled to Boston to visit her mother and uncle.  They visited her brother in Louisiana and vacationed in Phoenix.

Memorial Gathering: 1 – 3 pm, Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Burial will take place at Cheshire Cemetery in Ohio at a later date.
