Harry Herbert Griffitts

Harry Herbert Griffitts, 89, of Riverton, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021 at his home. He was born November 12, 1932, in Springfield, the son of Edgar and Goldie (Brown) Griffitts. He married JoAnna Koehler on June 15, 1951 and she preceded him in death on September 24, 2014.

Also preceding him in death are his parents; three sisters, Sophie, Roberta and Rozella; six brothers, Harold, Harley, Edgar, Raymond, Arthur, and Horace; son-in-law, Kirby Simmering; and two sons, Timmy and Richard Griffitts.

Survivors include four daughters, Roxanna (Elmer) Wardell of Buffalo, Tammie (Butch) Monier of Port Charlotte, FL, Lori Simmering, and Lona (Curt) Boggs, both of Riverton; daughter-in-law, Diana Griffitts; nine grandchildren, Bryan (Angela) Schleyhahn, Chrissy (Brad) Szoke, Jodi Schleyhahn, April (Jack) Wolford, Wendy (JR) Brehmer, Bobbijo (Jason) Bodine, Tyler (Allison) Simmering, Ashley Monier, and Aubrey (Michael) Cope; several great-grandchildren; brother, Henry Griffitts of Jacksonville, FL; several nieces and nephews and his four legged friend, Piper.

Family meant the world to Harry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, playing Wahoo and washers and working in his yard and garage. He enjoyed spending days with his sidekick/nephew Dennis (Denise) Griffitts, bidding jobs and having lunch. He was a generous man and always had a smile on his face. He never knew a stranger. He was the owner and founder of Griffitts Construction for 65 years along with his brothers, Horace and Harold. Harry was a United States Army veteran.

Memorial Gathering: 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Memorial Service: 12:30 pm, Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Reverend David W. Gessaman officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery
where military honor will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
