Michael Finigan

Michael Moran Finigan passed away peacefully, surrounded by friends and family on Thursday July 10th, 2025 at the age of 92.

Born October 5th, 1932 to John and Margot Finigan, he is predeceased by his wife, Mary Anne (Ward) Finigan and his siblings Peggy Wegman, Joe Finigan, Mary Finigan, Bridget Finigan, Kate Simpson and Elizabeth Finigan. He is survived by his sister Ellie Fralick (Jim), his children; John (Moe), Anne (Michael), Kelly (Kara) and Jay (Cindy), and his grandchildren; Hanna, McKenzie, Tate, Ellie, Maya, Hugh, Ginger, Mac and Bridget as well Dollinger, Simpson and Fralick nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A proud Rochesterian, he was raised in the Cobbs Hill neighborhood, attended Blessed Sacrament School, Aquinas Institute, Dartmouth College and finally the University of Rochester School of Medicine.

After medical training in Hanover, NH and Denver, CO, and two years of Naval service in Newport, RI, he returned to Rochester to start the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division at the Genesee Hospital.

He loved being a doctor. He was most natural talking with patients and teaching medical students. He was proud of his involvement in the founding of the Mary Parkes Center for Asthma, Allergy, and Pulmonary Care and the RIT Physicians’ Assistant program.

He loved sports, from watching the St. Louis Cardinals to his four children and their friends play various backyard, front yard, neighborhood, high school, and college games. A diehard baseball fan, at the age of 12 he took the train, on his own, to New York City to see the Yankees play 2 games.

The house on Bonnie Brae was a reflection of the life he and MA created- filled with friends and family, laughter, and “intelligent conversation”. Rest assured, there’s a chopping block table in heaven, and he and MA are sitting there, having a cocktail, and waiting for all us to join the party.

Friends may call to the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Avenue) Thursday, July 17, 4-6 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 18 at Blessed Sacrament Church ( 534 Oxford St., Rochester) at 11 am. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Michael’s memory to Blessed Sacrament Church, The Aquinas Institute or a charity of your choice.
