Barbara Ann “Barb” Strischek (nee Meyer), 87, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
Barb was born on September 27, 1937, in Chicago, IL to Francis and Barbara Meyer. Throughout her life, Barb was an outgoing, clever, and kind woman who loved to dance. She was successful in her career and devoted to her family. She enjoyed traveling and took many trips across the United States, the Caribbean, and Canada. Family get-togethers for holidays and any occasion delighted her, especially when it included wine. She also loved to read, do puzzles, and play games.
Barb is survived by her daughter Sandra “Sandy” (Jeff) Mencarini; her grandsons: John (Brigid) and Erik Mencarini who affectionately referred to her as “Grammy”; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and others that referred to her as “mom”.
Barb is preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Barbara; her beloved husband, John; grandson, Jason; and many aunts, uncles, and in-laws.
Visitation for friends and family will take place on July 19, 2025, beginning at 12:00pm, at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home, 6250 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL.
A prayer service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home, closing out the visitation. Immediately following, there will be a Celebration of Life party at the family home. All are welcome.
