H. Marklein

HERBERT R. MARKLEIN known as MARK, age 90 of Stephenson, MI. Mark’s life journey ended July 8, 2025 as his eternal life began. His Catholic faith was very important to him.

Mark was a man of uniform, serving his Country as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, 26 years as a Michigan State Police Sergeant, and 2 years as Sheriff of Menominee County, MI. Also affectionately known to his children during their teen years as the German General.

Above all, Mark was a family man, father, husband, grandpa and brother. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

Mark married Marian Ulrich on April 12, 1958. Mark and Marian moved to Stephenson where they raised three children. Mark lost Marian to cancer on November 13, 1978. Fortunate enough to find love again, Mark married Myrtle “Mitzi” Nelson on January 4, 1986.

Survivors include his wife: Mitzi; children: Mark (Penny) Marklein, Peggy Jenkins and Ken (Dolores) Marklein; 6 grandchildren: Bucky (Brandon) Marklein, Miriah (Justin) Schneider, Michael (Sarah) Jenkins, Erik (Taylor) Jenkins, Amber (Travis) Buelteman and William (Lynette) Marklein; 11 great grandchildren; and extended family: Betty & Mike Caswell, Arlene Ulrich, Janie Sacco and Carol & Phil Carroll.

Mark was preceded in death by his wife: Marian; parents: Walter & Theresa Marklein; and in-laws: John & Mary Ulrich

Visitation for Mark will be held on Tuesday July 15, 2025 at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home from 1:30 pm until time of Military Honors at 3:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Stephenson, MI at 4:00 pm with Father Jins Joseph officiating. A luncheon will be served at American Legion Post 43, River Road in Stephenson following the services. Private family burial will be at a later date.
