Beloved Wife • Mother • Daughter • Sister • Friend

Rebecca (Becky) Lee Shoell Kissel, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed at her home into the arms of her Savior on July 9, 2025, at the age of 42, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with brain cancer. She is now at peace—free from mortal pain and embraced in eternal love and forever present as a guiding light.

Born on September 29, 1982, in Provo, Utah, Becky was the second of three daughters to James Bryan and Andrea Lee Ridge Shoell. Raised in a loving and faith-filled home, Becky developed a deep testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She especially enjoyed attending Seminary and Institute and built a strong foundation of faith that guided her throughout her life. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she loved her Savior and joyfully taught the gospel to her children and served faithfully in many callings.

As a young girl, Becky was full of light and energy—riding bikes, playing yard games, and spending time with many neighborhood friends. She had a vibrant personality and a love for music, softball, and dance—participating on her high school’s ballroom team and singing in the A’ Capella choir. She also treasured family camping and fishing trips, and a memorable journey with her grandparents up the northern coast. Becky graduated from Timpanogos High School and attended UVCC.

On May 19, 2006, Becky married her eternal companion, Clayton James Kissel, in the Jordan River Temple. Together they were blessed with two beloved children, Liberty Paige and Ian Patrick. Becky was a devoted and nurturing mother—gentle, playful, patient, and ever-present. She enjoyed canning and loved to cook, serving her family good food made with love, just like her Grandma Hedquist.

Becky’s passions were wide and wonderfully unique. She was a talented seamstress and had a creative spirit, she found joy in crafting, drawing, crocheting, and flower arranging. Becky had a deep love of music, books, and classical films from Hollywood’s Golden Age and she especially cherished playing games and building puzzles with her family. She also loved the outdoors, particularly archery and axe throwing.

Becky worked as a teacher’s aide at her children’s elementary school, where she was dearly loved by students and teachers for her kindness, humor, and gentle encouragement. Becky had a wonderful laugh, a sparkle in her eye, and a heart that overflowed with empathy and compassion. She loved deeply and supported others fiercely with an extraordinary gift for making others feel her love. Whether through her talents, service, or words of encouragement, she lifted those around her. She will now continue to love and support her family and friends from the other side of the veil.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, and therapists at Utah Valley Hospital, and to the compassionate caregivers of Community Nursing Services In-home Health and Hospice, for their tender and attentive care.

Becky is survived by her husband, Clayton James Kissel, and their children, Liberty Paige and Ian Patrick; her parents, James Bryan and Andrea Ridge Shoell; her sisters, Teresa Ann (Jason) Madsen, and Jaime Lynn Shoell; her nephew, Jacob (Tatumn) Bryan, son of Teresa and Jason (whom she helped care for). She is preceded in death by her Grandpa and Grandma Ridge and her Grandpa Shoell.

A visitation will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 85 East 700 North in Orem, Utah, on Wednesday, July 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and again on Thursday, July 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

In honor of Becky’s bright and beautiful spirit, the family invites all who attend the services to wear purple, her favorite color.

Please share your memories and messages of love and comfort on the Mortuary website so that all may find peace in her lasting light. Becky’s love lives on in every heart she touched.
