Thomas Baker
November 19, 1949 – June 24, 2025
Thomas Steven “Steve” Baker age 75 passed away on June 24, 2025. Steve was a graduate of New Hope High School and the University of Alabama. He was the third generation owner of the 100 plus year old, family owned Baker Hardware Store in Owens Cross Roads. He served as an Owens Cross Roads city councilman from 1972-1976 and then served as mayor 1977-1988.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert H. and Avis Baker, and his brother Robert Houston Baker III.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Gail Smith Baker, son Scott (Amy), daughter Anna Gail, sister Anna Warren, and grandchildren Hayden, Paul, Genevieve, and Layne.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 27, at New Hope Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday, June 28th, at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Funeral Home. Bro. Harold Kelly and Bro. Clifton Mann will officiate. Pallbearers will be Paul Echols, Greg Glover, Bill Harrel, Robb Hereford, Richard Smith, and Houston Wright.
Internment will follow at Moon Cemetery in Owens Cross Roads.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Owens Cross Roads Methodist church or any charity of your choice in his memory.
