Irene Warnes

Irene Warnes, 85, of Sugarcreek, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025 at Country Club Nursing Home in Dover following a short period of declining health.

She was born in Ragersville on September 10, 1939 to the late Ira and Ethel (Inherst) Varnes and married L. Dean Warnes on June 21, 1957.  He died on September 27, 1991.

Irene worked as a cook at Dutch Valley Restaurant in Sugarcreek for many years.  She was a member of the former Zion United Church of Christ in New Bedford.

She is survived by her son Larry Warnes of Sugarcreek; 2 nieces Kim (Dan) Yoder of Dover and Karen (Philip) Miller of Sugarcreek; and many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Warnes, nieces Shirley Scarr and Pat Yoder, and several step siblings.

Services will be held Monday, June 23, 2025 at 12 PM (Noon) at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek with Pastor Mark Britton officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery.  Friends may call on Monday    from 11-12 at the funeral home prior to services.
