Jeffrey Scott Keel passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the age of 63. In 2019, Scott underwent a double lung transplant due to an autoimmune disease and subsequently developed an aggressive form of skin cancer, which he battled for over a year with great courage and faith.
Scott was born in Dothan, Alabama and attended Dothan High School where he played baseball and graduated in 1980. He graduated from Troy University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He went on to pursue his CPA and worked in Birmingham, Alabama, San Antonio and Austin, Texas before moving to Apalachicola, Florida where he resided with his wife.
Scott was a fun-loving man with many interests. He enjoyed golf, skiing, live music, astronomy, brewing beer, plein-air painting and shooting fireworks. He was always learning whether it was religion, stock options, bigfoot lore, or weather. He was a lover of Florida oysters and enjoyed shucking and grilling them for friends and family. Scott always had a smile, joke, movie quote and enjoyed quizzing family and friends on sports trivia. He also loved football and baseball and was passionate about the Alabama Crimson Tide. Scott loved knowing the convoluted rules of football and baseball and could explain why an official was right in controversial calls during the replays, even if they didn’t go Bama’s way.
Preceded in death by his parents, Barbara Forehand Keel and Bobby Gene Keel.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Anna Ivey Keel, his brother, Barry Keel of Tallahassee, FL and his sister, Alyson Mitchell (John) of Montgomery, AL; as well as his nephews, Owen Keel, Graye Keel, Banks Mitchell, Grant Mitchell and his niece Jane Mitchell and a load of cousins.
A memorial service will be held at First Methodist Church in Apalachicola, Florida on June 28 at 10:30.
