LaVerne Elmer Norris Sr., 91, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday evening, October 20, 2021, at Crystal Care Nursing Center in Ashland.
Born August 3, 1930, in Ravenna, Ohio, he was the son of the late Loea (Shoe) and Elmer Norris. He worked at AK Steel until his retirement. He married the love of his life, Lucille Fliger, on January 30, 1947, and they had a beautiful marriage of 70 years. LaVerne had a “pleasure” farm where he raised cows, horses, pigs and chickens. He enjoyed being outdoors and visiting with his family. He loved music and was a gifted musician able to play the mandolin, banjo, keyboard, guitar, and violin.
LaVerne is survived by three children, LaVerne “Butch” E. Norris, Jr., Sue E. Davis, and Michael Norris; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; numerous brothers and sisters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Iris Norris, on February 10, 2018; daughter, Norma Jean Massie; two brothers, Robert and Leroy Norris; and four sisters, Midge Cole, Audrey Manojdovich, Donna Newberry, and Ailane Malloy.
Honoring LaVerne’s wishes there will be no visitation or service observed. The Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
