Mary Thornton -Wallace

Mary Pearl Thornton-Wallace, 67, of Commerce, GA, entered her heavenly home on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. She was born on May 29, 1957, to the late Margaret Haley and Robert Thornton.

Mary attended Franklin County Schools, graduating in 1976. That same year, she met James (Greg) Wallace. They moved to Commerce and shared a loving partnership for 48 years. A dedicated homemaker, Mary joined Melvin Hill C.M.E. Church at an early age, where she joyfully sang in the youth choir.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Greg Wallace; her son, Kevin Thornton; and her daughter, Kanesha Wallace. She is also survived by her sister, Ida Gillespie; her niece, Freada Thornton; and her nephews, Efrem Thornton (Michelle) and Teflon Thornton. Special friends who held a dear place in her heart include Mary Brown, Jessie Beasley, and Belinda Levit. Mary also cherished her special cousins Earlene Cowan, Leroy Haley, Debra Yates, and Diane Easley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Haley and Robert Thornton; her oldest sister, Jessie Thornton; her brother, Jerry Thornton; her aunt, Tommie Haley; and her oldest nephew, Robert Thornton.
