Austin Leatherman

Austin James Leatherman, 17, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Born September 14, 2007, in Waynesboro, PA, he is the son of Douglas Jay Leatherman (Michelle) of Myersville and Kathryn Christine (Prosser) Kaiser (Philip) of Hagerstown.

Austin attended Clear Spring High School and was employed with the Clear Spring Country Diner.

Austin was a member of the Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company 13, Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Company 1 Juniors, Myersville Volunteer Fire Company 8, but his heart was at Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company 4, where he began as a junior firefighter and was currently studying to be a Firefighter 1 & EMT.  He also helped with Civil Air Patrol at the Hagerstown Airport.

He played baseball for Maugansville Little League and enjoyed playing with hot wheels in his early years.  He loved air shows, video games, legos, military history, and was an artist.  He enjoyed spending Saturday evenings at the Hagerstown Speedway with the Clear Spring Fire Department.  He enjoyed tractor shows, pulls, and fire expos.

He “loved” every siren that he heard!  Most of all, Austin will be remembered for his willingness to always help others.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Devin Leatherman (Madisyn) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Caleb Leatherman of Hanover, PA; a step sister, Natasha Kaiser of Rochester, NY; a step brother, Joshua Kaiser (Allison Hurd) of Hampton, VA; paternal grandparents, Austin and Linda Leatherman and Harold and Pam Summers, all of Myersville, MD; maternal grandparents, James and Marjorie Prosser of Greencastle, PA and Ellen Kaiser of San Antonio, TX; two aunts, Doris Grossnickle (Scott) and Nancy Grimm (Herb), both of Myersville, MD; an uncle, Todd Kaiser (Claire) of Nimpo, CA; niece, Allayah Kaiser; nephew, Easton Leatherman; cousins, Joshua Grossnickle (Rebekah), Ethan Grossnickle, Noah Grossnickle, Ryan Grimm, Connor Grimm, Chloe Grimm, Peyton Pringle, and Judy Prosser; special friends, Riley Zeiders, Michael Ortiz, and Lance Casey; his special girlfriend, Leah Wall; and numerous other  special friends and family members.

The family will receive friends at the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company Special Events Building, 12323 Big Spring Road, Clear Spring, MD on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 2 to 8 pm.  There will be fire fighter honors offered at 7:30 p.m. by the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company Junior Department.
