James Fredrick Mulso, “Butch” as he was known his entire life, made his entrance to this world with a bang on November 11, 1940, the famed Armistice Day blizzard in Fairmont, Minnesota to Elmer and Gladys (nee Benson) Mulso. Butch attended school in Sherburn, proudly graduating with the class of 1958. After graduation, Butch served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1964, until he was honorably discharged in 1969.
Butch was united in marriage with his true love and soulmate Donna Huse on March 13, 1965, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. The union brought them both much joy and happiness throughout their lives as well as two daughters who were the light of their lives. They were able to share thirty-six years together. Butch farmed near Sherburn raised corn and soybeans, along with hogs back in the 70’s. He loved being outside in the tractor and working around the farm. Butch also sold Super Crost Seed/Garst Seeds. Butch and Donna owned and operated the Country Café in Sherburn until Donna’s passing in 2001.
Butch was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn where he served as an usher. Butch was a man of talents and passions, one of his lifelong passions was baseball, as a player and a fan. He delighted legions of Sherburn Foxes’ fans with his prodigious home runs. He also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Butch was a member of the Thomas P. Saxton American Legion Post #356 in Sherburn for 60 years and was on the Sherburn Fire Department from 1965-1975. His heart was always very close to Sherburn and Martin County where he was a lifelong resident.
