Tyce Dekker
Tyce Dekker, age 61, of Concord, California, passed away unexpectedly from cardiac arrest on May 3, 2025.

Tyce was born and raised in Concord. He grew up playing football and basketball, forming strong bonds with his teammates and lifelong relationships with his coaches. At Concord High School, he excelled as a pulling guard and received a scholarship to play football at Bakersfield Junior College, where he met the love of his life, Carla. Together, they returned to Concord to raise their family among close friends and family. Tyce built a long and respected career in public service, spending 25 years with the City of Concord, eventually serving as the Public Works Supervisor for the Parks Division. His love of horticulture and public interaction made him a natural fit for the role, and it often seemed like he knew every person in town.

Tyce was a larger-than-life character with great enthusiasm for the outdoors. Instilled by his father, he found great joy in the ocean, and loved abalone diving and fishing along the Northern California coast. He maintained his passion for football, and especially enjoyed coaching his children’s sports, leading his daughter Karina to multiple CYO basketball championships. His love of horticulture and good times with friends naturally led to a side hustle in vineyard management and winemaking, resulting in many cases of excellent (and sometimes not so excellent!) wine. He took great pride in family camping trips, and was putting the final touches on the Camp Dekker cabin, where he often raved about holding future family gatherings. His gregarious nature, his laugh, and his loving presence will be missed by all who knew him.

Tyce is survived by his wife, Carla; his children, Garrett, Jordan, and Karina; and his four grandchildren, Tycen, Annika, Carter, and Colt.

A memorial service will be held on May 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Church in Concord. A celebration of life will follow at Concord Community Park. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to spend time outside. Plant a tree, take a dip in the ocean, or simply enjoy a local park.

Tyce’s colleagues at the City of Concord set up a GoFundMe for a memorial bench in a City Park, the link is below.
