William Earl “Jake” Jacobs

William Earl “Jake” Jacobs, 105, of Hendersonville, NC went to sleep peacefully in Jesus on June 14, 2022 at the home of his son Thomas Jacobs in Hendersonville where he had lived for 15 years. Born in Badin, NC on January 21, 1917, Earl was a native of Winston-Salem, NC where he graduated from R J Reynolds High School in 1933. He and his wife Lottie moved to Hendersonville in 1980 after retiring from managing dental laboratories in Baton Rouge, LA and San Antonio, TX.  In their retirement years they also resided off and on in Bellingham and Ferndale, WA close to their son Howard Jacobs and family. Earl, the 7th of 8 children, was a son of the late Robert H and Maude Pridmore Jacobs. He lived a passionate life with a love of God, family and country. Earl had been a member of the Hendersonville Church of God where he had attended regularly for many years. Earl was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lottie Green Jacobs, on March 28, 2007. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Robert, Frank, Raymond, Harry, Howard Jacobs, and two sisters, Clara Brooks and Doris Sapp.

Earl’s survivors are two sons, Thomas Earl Jacobs of Hendersonville, NC and Howard H. Jacobs (wife Jerry) of Ferndale, WA, and a daughter Ella Mae Jacobs Smith (husband Hal) of Charlotte, NC. He is survived by 6 grandchildren Kendra Jacobs Pearson, Stephanie Jacobs Mullins, Jon Cory Jacobs, Michelle Smith Suarez, Jeanne Lauren Smith and Heather Smith Nichols plus 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  As the patriarch of the Jacobs’s family, Earl has left behind many loving nieces and nephews.
Earl, a Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class, served in the Navy in World War II as a dental technician. He was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base in Waukegan, IL from 1943 until 1946. His career in that field started when he was 16 and continued in some capacity until his mid 90’s. Earl married Lottie Green from Kosciusko, MS when he was home from boot camp on February 25, 1944 in Meridian, MS. They had met in Meridian when he was working in his brother Frank’s dental lab. Earl managed a dental lab in Baton Rouge, LA from 1949 until 1977, the longest part of his career, while raising his family in Denham Springs, LA. He was president of the Louisiana Dental Lab Guild in 1957 and president of the SE Conference of Dental Laboratories from 1974-1975. In 1977 Earl was transferred to manage a dental lab in San Antonio, TX where he finished his full time career the first of 1980. Earl enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing during those years. In his latter years, Earl enjoyed shooting pool, visiting local coffee shops, restaurants, lunch at the Sammy Williams Senior Center, and working out at the Pardee Wellness and Rehab. Having had such a love of road trips and travel, Earl had visited all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Israel, and London.
Earl credits his long life to loving Jesus, having a business to operate, and continuing to work as long as he was able. He was involved in church activities his whole life. He will be deeply missed by his family and loved ones who meant so much to him. In addition to family, Earl was compassionately cared for in his final months by Four Seasons Hospice, Always Best Care, and Comfortable Blessings. The Family is so thankful for their services and assistance, which provided essential care during this time.
A memorial service will be held July 1st at 1:00 pm at Shuler Funeral Home 125 Orr’s Camp Rd Hendersonville, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Four Seasons Hospice 571 S Allen Rd Flat Rock, NC 28731 or Hendersonville Rescue Mission 639 Maple St Hendersonville, NC 28792.
There will be a reception following the service at Hendersonville Church of God 2103 Brevard Rd Hendersonville, NC.
