William D. Patsilivas

William D. Patsilivas (Bill) 86, of Park Ridge, IL, passed away surrounded by his family at his
home on March 30, 2022. He was born in Vlahokerasia, Greece, on August 15, 1934, son of the
late Demitrios and Eleni (Skoufis) Patsilivas. Surviving Bill are his devoted wife, Mary (nee
Hornbuckle), his three children, Elaine (Martin) Fosse, Constance (Jeffrey) Kazee and Demitri
(Nataliya) Patsilivas, his much adored grandchildren, Vassileia and Sophia Kazee, Christo and
Georgia Fosse, Vasili and Ana Patsilivas, his brothers-in-law John Paras and Van Paras of
Pittsburgh, Frank Hornbuckle of Denver, sister, Vasiliki, of Sparta, Greece, as well as numerous
nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren here in the States and in Greece. Bill was preceded
in death by his first love, Bessie Paras Patsilivas,brothers, Kosta, Athanasios and Panayiotis,
and his grandson Martinios Fosse.

 

Bill emigrated to the United States in 1951,settling in Pittsburgh, PA with little money and no
knowledge of the language. A sterling example of the American Dream, he started out as a
busser at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association, before becoming an entrepreneur himself. In
Cincinnati, OH, he, like many Greek-Americans, owned two restaurants, first the Soho
Underground and then Basil’s Home Cooking. Family, friends, and customers knew him as an
entertaining, generous man of strong faith who loved life. While not working, Bill loved to be on
the golf course, bowling or playing in legendary card games.

 

Friends will be received on Monday, April 4th from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m at Smith Corcoran Funeral
Home, 6150 N Cicero Ave, Chicago. Funeral service follows at 10 a.m. at St. Haralambos Greek
Orthodox Church, Niles, IL. Interment Town of Maine Cemetery.
