William “Bill” Faloon Stewart, 97, passed away peacefully on Jan. 1, 2023, at Oldorf Hospice House, surrounded by family.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Stewart, Agnes (Faloon) Stewart, and brothers, Gordon and Norman Stewart.

He is survived by his beloved brother, Alan Stewart, of Ballymoney, Northern Ireland, nieces and nephews in the UK, and close family, Charlene, Rebecca, and Martha Briggs, Caleb and Joshua Sauer, and Ron Adkins.

Bill was born Sept. 6, 1925, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He graduated from Strandtown Primary School, and attended Belfast Technical College before working at Short & Harland, building Sunderland flying boats and Stirling bombers used in WWII. After the war, he held various jobs around Belfast, and served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.

In 1958, Bill immigrated to the United States and settled in Cedar Rapids. He worked in construction and maintenance, before being appointed Executive Director of Hawthorne Hills Apartments for 22 years, until his retirement.

With a love for life and a passion for learning, Bill had endless curiosity about a variety of interests, from archeology to literature to gardening to craftsman trades, and excelled at all he put his hands to. His skills and creativity were generously shared, as he freely helped others with projects or needs. He was able to build or fix almost anything.

Bill had an extended family in the U.S., and was adored by friends and relations. His Irish brogue, and the sparkle in his eye while reciting Yeats or rhymes, will be missed by all.

A celebration of life will be scheduled later this spring.
