Warren James Klunick

Warren James Klunick 89, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. He was born December 24, 1933 in Springfield, to Peter and Martha (Casper) Klunick. He married Shirley D. Wieland on July 13, 1963 and she preceded him in death on April 8, 2018.

Also preceding him in death are his parents; aunt, Eva Haberer; two uncles, Emil Haberer and Walter “Bud” Casper; infant sister, Marcella Klunick; sister, Norma Stecz and two brothers-in-law, George “Jersey” Stecz and Robert Cormany.

Survivors include three children, Craig (Brenda) Elliott of Chatham, Karen (Bill) Manns of Springfield and Susan Hackett of Edinburg; six grandchildren, Amanda (Alex) Woods, Nathan Estes, Ryan (Deana) Estes, Megan Washburn, Alexis Manns (Hunter Poggi), and Addyson Hackett; four great grandchildren, Annabelle and Ava Woods, Sabrina Doudera, and Alanna Poggi on the way; one sister-in-law, Sharon Cormany; one nephew, George (Lynn) Stecz; two nieces, Kim Kensell and Kris Cormany; one great nephew, Jared (Chelsea) Stecz and one great niece, Alexis Stecz.

Warren graduated from Lanphier High School, Class of 1952 and was a US Navy veteran serving during the Korean War, with the Atlantic Fleet. He was a self-employed painter and previously had worked for Allis-Chalmers/Fiat-Allis.

He was an avid Southeast High School soccer, basketball, and football Fan where his children and grandchildren attended. Warren also enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He loved to do woodworking and was a great DIY’er. Warren in his younger years was a member of the UAW and enjoyed bowling.

Visitation: 10 – 11:30 am, Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Pastor Troy Easley officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
