Velma Joyce Rymer

Velma Joyce Rymer, 88, of Hendersonville, died Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Carolina Village.

She was born in Redford County in Central Pennsylvania on August 25, 1932 to the late Lena Ehersole and Charles Allen Snyder.  Velma grew up and went to public school in the area until her high school days when her family moved to Pittsburg where her father found work with Westinghouse Electric Company.  She was the salutatorian of her graduating class and after graduation she went to work in a department store.

Velma met her future husband, John Rymer at the local Baptist church she attended.  They were married on June 26, 1954 and settled in Hendersonville, where John was already engaged in ministry.

While she supported her husband in his ministry, teaching children and being active in the music ministry at the church.  She was a secretary at Cranston Print Works, Olin Matheson Corporation, and First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, where she worked 19 years as Administration assistant to the pastor’s secretary.  She also sang in the adult choir for many years.  Velma leaves a legacy of devotion to the Lord and her husband.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. John Rymer and numerous friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Shuler Funeral Home.  A private burial will be held at Pittillo-Lanning Cemetery.
