Tom Walker, 90, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairieburg, with interment in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army and the Central City Legion Post Wapsi Post 421. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, with a Parish Vigil service at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Walker family.

Surviving are four children, Steven, Julie, Matthew (Shelley) and Richard (Tammy); seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Gerriane and Mary; four siblings; and his beloved dog Spike.

Thomas Henry Walker was born June 29, 1932, at Prairieburg, Iowa. He was the son of William and Elizabeth Kula, Walker. Tom went to St. Joseph Catholic School in Prairieburg, and then high school in Central City. Tom served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Barbara Kindl on Sept. 14, 1954, at Iowa City, Iowa. Tom had been employed at International Harvester in the Quad Cities and Anamosa Stave and Silo. He worked most of his life at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1976.

Tom was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish and ate what he killed or caught. He was always tinkering around in the garage building things, as he was a very inventive person. He was an active member of St. Joseph Parish, helping with the fish fry and the Stag, where he would often smoke 20 turkeys for the event. Tom was a member of the Good ‘Ole Boys in Prairieburg as well. He loved to grow all kinds of fruit, especially watermelons. Tom has been a friend of Bill for over 41 years and was always there to help other friends get through a rough time.
