Scott was born on Feb. 24, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Max and Jeanne Werling of Tipton. Scott grew up in Tipton and graduated from Tipton High School in 1971. He studied liberal arts and broadcasting at Kirkwood Community College and UNI, earning his Associate’s degree. He married Cindy Shover on Sept. 16, 1978. The couple made their home in Anamosa where they raised their three children.

Scott worked as a disc jockey for several radio stations throughout his career. He worked for KWWL and several other stations. He started working for the Iowa Department of Public Safety as a dispatcher in January 1977. After more than 32 years, he retired in 2009. His work as a dispatcher earned him the opportunity to travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2002 to assist with emergency dispatch at the Winter Olympic games.

Scott was a public address announcer for several high schools, colleges, universities, and sports clubs all over Eastern Iowa, including Anamosa High School for over 21 years. Scott also showed off his talents with the Quad City River Bandits as their public address announcer for more than eight years. In 2011 Scott was chosen to travel to St. Louis with the River Bandits to announce their Championship game at Busch Stadium, which is the home of the St. Louis Cardinals. Scott also did DJ work in his spare time, providing entertainment at many dances and wedding receptions.

Scott was an avid Hawkeyes fan, a NASCAR fan, a Ham Radio operator (N0XZY), and he loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed playing games, watching movies, or just “shooting the breeze.”’

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Werling of Anamosa; his children, Eric Werling of West Liberty, Todd (Heidi) Werling of Anamosa and Carrie (Josh) VanArman of Anamosa, his grandchildren, Peyton, Teagan and Everett; sister, Sarah (Terry) Cochran of Fairfield; brother, Stuart Werling of Tipton; and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Jeanne Werling.

Scott’s family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to Dr. Mary Ann Nelson and the staff of St. Croix Hospice.
