Sandra Louise (Brown) Pink Carney passed away on Jan. 11, 2023, at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her parents David K.E. and Lucille L. (Schmidt) Brown, brother David B., husband John Spencer Pink, and longtime forever friend Karen Dillon of Sabula, Iowa.

“Sandy,” as known by friends and family, was born on Nov. 12, 1937, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. After high school, she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to continue her education to become a nurse. She established a career as a school nurse in the Cedar Rapids school system for 35 years. Her dedication to education never stopped. She devoted her time and efforts to provide educational assistance to her loved ones. She was an avid dog lover. There was barely a time where you would catch her without one of her black Labradors. Sandy loved her hobbies, candle-making, and crafts. Her father taught her how to make candles at a young age. She created a candle business out of her home and shared her work with friends and family. It was not odd for her to give a candle or two away to put a smile on someone’s face. She was known for her caring and giving personality.

She will be missed by many but remembered in all she has done. She leaves behind a nephew, Craig Brown of San Diego, Calif., the relatives of Karen Dillon, and many adopted family members who are “friends.” Teahen Funeral Home of Cedar Rapids is assisting the family. Condolences can be left on their website. A private ceremony will be held with the Dillon family and close relatives at a future date.
