Ruth Elaine Drips, 87, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, at Summit Pointe Assisted Living Facility. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, conducted by her cousin, Pastor James Stewart. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Springville Cemetery in Springville, Iowa.

Ruth was born on April 22, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of George and Gladys (Howland) Drips. She lived on a farm and through the third grade went to a one-room school house. Ruth graduated from Marion High School in 1953, Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., in 1955, and the University of Iowa, with a bachelor’s degree in Commerce in 1957. She worked in the office of Armstrong’s Department Store in Cedar Rapids for 33 years. Ruth enjoyed reading, knitting, traveling, cooking and being with her relatives and friends. Her passion was showing American Saddlebred horses in horse shows and spending one week in Louisville, Ky., in August at the World’s Championship Horse Show for several years. Ruth was inducted into the Iowa Horsemen’s Hall of Fame. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Ruth is survived by several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and several relatives.
