Ruth C. Abbott

Ruth C. Abbott

Ruth C. Abbott was born on August 18th 1934 in Tupelo, Mississippi.  She was the youngest of 8 children born to the union of Kintchen and Dorothy Calmease, who preceded her in death. Ruth had an identical twin sister Ruby Williams. The bond they shared was unbreakable. If you saw one you knew the other wasn’t far behind. Some referred to them as “Thelma and Louise”.

Ruth accepted Christ and joined St. John Baptist Church in Shannon Mississippi at the age of 13. Ruth received her education at Shannon High School, where she later graduated in 1953.

Ruth moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1953 where she later met and married John Abbott and subsequently gave birth to 6 children.

Ruth and John were entrepreneurs working side by side at Abbott’s Barbeque in the 60’s on E105th and later moved on E 93rd.  Ruth’s passion was gardening.  She also loved to sew and read (especially Harlequin Romance novels).  Some of her other hobbies were shopping, puzzles and spend time with her family, (especially her grandchildren)! Ruth also enjoyed playing cards. Her favorite games were Solitaire and Gin Rummy. She loved sports and would often reminisce about the days when she played basketball with her twin sister Ruby.

Ruth was very optimistic and always tried to uplift other spirits. She saw good in everyone and would not let anyone speak negative about others.

God in his infinite wisdom called Ruth home to her eternal rest on April 5th, 2022.

Ruth C. Abbott is preceded in death by her husband Johnny Abbott, daughter Susan Pierce. 7 siblings, twin sister Ruby Williams, Lula Shumpert, Christine Kemp, Oscar Calmease, Grace Lyles, Winnifred Whitaker, and Johnnie Mae Edwards.

Ruth C. Abbott leaves to cherish her precious memories her children, Jon Pierce, Eric Pierce, Craig Pierce (Sasha), Brendalyn Milligan, and Tracye E. Pierce. Also, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
