Cedar Rapids

Ronald H. Weuve, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in Cedar Rapids, while held in the hearts of his loving family who cherished him. Memorial Visitation extends from 10:00 am Saturday, August 10, 2024, until the 11:00 am Memorial Service at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Interment will be private.

Ron was born on May 28, 1945, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the fourth of five children of Howard and Evelyn (Wilkening) Weuve. He graduated from West Marshall High School, and then attended Marshalltown Community College and Iowa State University, from where he earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering in 1968. He and his beloved, Karen Person, married shortly thereafter and set off to Cedar Rapids, where he commenced a long career with Collins Radio and then Rockwell Collins. Into the world, they brought their children, Jennifer and Derrick. In retirement, Ron combined his technical skills with his altruistic spirit in volunteering for the REACT Center, which refurbished tens of thousands of used computers for donation to schools and other organizations. He always looked forward to meeting his Tuesday morning coffee group. He was a long-time and devoted member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, serving in numerous roles, including a voice in the choir.

Tragically, Karen died in 1977, a passing that profoundly shaped Ron. In 2011, he met Pamela Mott, the start of a vibrant chapter of his life in which they shared numerous traveling adventures, including visits to all 7 continents in 3 years. It was in Antarctica, radiating their warm smiles and devotion to each other, where they married in 2017. Whether traveling or at home, they entertained each other and their loved ones with their delightful banter. Ron loved his family fiercely and, with them, enjoyed sailing, waterskiing, downhill skiing, roller-skating, bestowing his much-appreciated handyman and mechanical wisdom, and, most importantly, spending time together, whether on long trips or over pizza dinners capped off by ice cream (or dinners comprising just ice cream). He was loved by all and will be missed immensely.

Ron is survived by his wife, Pam; daughter, Jennifer (Jeffrey Gitelle) Weuve of Boston, MA; son, Derrick (Cathi) Weuve of Marengo, IA; grandson, Ryan (Shannon) Weuve and great-grandson, Henry Ronald Weuve of Cedar Rapids, IA; Pam’s daughters, Andrea (Brent) Zastrow of Wausau, WI, and Janda (Matt) Wilden of Vinton, IA; and grandchildren, Alexa and Brittany Zastrow of Minneapolis, MN; and Brynn, Luke, and Reid Wilden of Vinton, IA; brother, Hank Weuve of Colo, IA; sister, Ronna (Daryl) Kurtz of Altoona, IA; brother, Pete Weuve of Rhodes, IA; sister-in-law, Mary Weuve of Waukee, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded into death by his parents; his wife, Karen; brother, Roger Weuve, sister-in-law, Carol Weuve; sister-in-law, Jean Weuve; and nephew, Steven Weuve.
