Roger A. Roland

Roger A. Roland, 83, of Ashland, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021 at Brethren Care Nursing Home. Born October 23, 1938 in Ashland, he was the son of Clifford and Liallian (Collins) Roland.

A lifelong Ashland resident, Roger grew up in the Elm Street / Arch Street area and later on East Main Street near the Armory. His family always had a dog, mainly Beagles. He would walk to Ashland High School from which he graduated. During high school, he worked for the Ashland Theatre as an usher and also would be responsible for checking in the film. Roger later lived on 4th Street and worked for Faultless Rubber and Philway Products.

Roger was a sports enthusiast whether it was swimming, biking or fishing with his brother, playing basketball and an occasional round of golf. He enjoyed Bingo, reading the newspaper, watching TV – movies, music shows, news and sports, playing Euchre and building things with erector sets and model railroads. He also enjoyed cooking. Roger was a member of Grace Church in Ashland. He was also a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles #2178.

He is survived by his niece, Jeanne Roland; his step niece, Kelley (Ken) Baumgardner; his step nephew, John (Brenda) Potts; and his guardian and friend, Curtis Hall.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin (Karen) Roland and his sister, Phyllis Roland.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 4, 2021 at11:00 a.m. at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland conducted by Pastor Norm Johnson. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Thursday.
