Roberta Lou (Morrison) Gruber, better known by her beloved family and friends as “Bobbie,” died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids of heart failure. She was 80 years old, born April 23, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, to Paul Morrison and C. Eleanor (Humphrey) Morrison.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, with a rosary service starting at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

A graduate of Jefferson High School, Bobbie studied for two years at the University of Iowa, after which she worked at Rockwell Collins. During this time at Rockwell, she met and later married Kenneth Gruber, thus

a family and a career as a homemaker. Bobbie was a fantastic seamstress, who did many custom alterations and original pieces.

After the sudden and early death of Kenneth, Bobbie reinvented herself and began a career in food service and concessions, managing concession stands at the CR Kernels Stadium, Tuma Soccer Complex, Sport Zone and owning a Blimpie franchise.

Bobbie was a strong supporter of law enforcement and military, keeping a band of black and blue on her front door. Her love for law enforcement began with her grandfather, Louis Morrison, who was a Cedar Rapids Chief of Police. Her support continued for many family members and friends in the services.

Bobbie is survived by her four children, Anne Thing, Michael Gruber, Jenni (David) Mayer and Jim (Janell) Gruber; seven grandchildren, Adam (Yuka) Mayer, Jessica (Luke) Conrad, Andrew Thing, Logan Mayer, Matthew Gruber, Ben Mayer and Maddie Mayer; and two great-grandchildren, Kalina Mayer and Alex Mayer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister and brother-in-law, Jeannie (Bob) Lopez; and one granddaughter, Nicole Thing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
