Robert Marshek, 81, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 4, 2025 at the University of Iowa Hospital-Downtown.

A rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. A visitation will follow from 2-4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Robert was born on December 1, 1943 in Iowa City to Bohumil “Bones” and Mary (Donohue) Marshek. After graduating from Mt. Vernon High School in 1961, Robert immediately started working on the family farm near Hills. He married Donna Greiner in 1967 and together, the couple worked side by side tending to their farms for many years. In 1993, Robert also started working at the University of Iowa Hospital in the housekeeping department. He retired from there in 2011.

Robert had many hobbies and achievements. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and avid fan of polka music, the Hawkeyes and Cubs. Robert spent free time mushroom hunting, antique shopping and attending flea markets as well as spending Sundays driving for ice cream and riding his side by side around the farm and local dirt roads. He supported his kids and grandkids at 4-H shows and was always up for a good game of cards or Dominoes. Robert was involved in many “tractor cades” and he had the grand champion feeder pig truckload at the Iowa Feeder Pig Expo. He was also on the Iowa Barn Quilt list.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Donna; children: Lisa (Gary) Johnson, Kevin (Jill) Marshek, Karen (Chris) Hoenig and Keith (Camie) Marshek; grandchildren: Kyle (Megan) Johnson, Moriah Johnson, Austin Marshek, Allison Marshek, Matt Hoenig, Megan Hoenig, Kailee Marshek and Kelly Marshek; great-grandchildren: Andrew Johnson and Rylee Johnson as well as several extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother- and father-in-law, brother and sisters-in-law and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.
