Robert L. Davidson Sr.

Robert “Bob” L. Davidson Sr., 79, of Shelby, passed away early Thursday morning, September 30, 2021, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.

He was born November 14, 1941, in Findlay, Ohio, to the late Roy G. and Martha J. (Fry) Davidson. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from General Motors in Ontario after 30 years of service. He was widely known as “Lightning” at work and enjoyed his job immensely. Bob was a member of the Amvets, Masonic Lodge, was a past Master Mason and 32nd degree Mason.

His hobbies included woodcarving and woodwork, and building and remodeling homes. Bob not only was a master at woodworking, he could identify every saw by sight. He enjoyed country music and square dancing.

Bob is survived by a daughter, Dorie Flynn; a son, Robert (Shannon) Davidson, Jr.; son-in-law, Rick Kilgore; six grandchildren, David Freed, Quentin Hanes, Erica Hoskins, Heather Kilgore, Robbie Davidson, and Ben Davidson; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie (Rathburn) Davidson on September 20, 2014; first wife, Wanda Davidson; daughter, Terresa Kilgore; son-in-law, Jeff Flynn; and siblings, Vernon “Red” Davidson, Doris (Bob) Long, and Bill Davidson.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2021, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Masonic services will be presented during visitation hours. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 2:00 p.m. with Mike Rozelle officiating. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park with military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
