Robert Carl Belknap

Robert Carl Belknap, 87, of Roswell, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.

A son of the late Harry and Thelma (Page) Belknap, Robert was born February 22, 1934 at Roswell, Ohio.

Robert graduated from Midvale High School in 1951. He then enlisted with the United States Airforce and honorably served his country during the Korean War as a Tail Gunner in a B-29 Bomber. On July 23, 1952, while still serving in the Air Force, Robert married the former Joan Benedum and they raised 10 children. The couple shared 57 years of marriage prior to Joan’s passing on December 16, 2009.

Robert was a longtime employee of Reeves Steel at Dover where he retired as a shipping foreman.

He was an avid reader and he also enjoyed tending to his gardens with his son, Jerry. Robert also enjoyed listening to music.

He is survived by his children, Melody (Chris) Steinebach of Indiana, Carla (John) Cannon of Tuscarawas, Mitch (Sharon) Belknap of Roswell, Jerry Belknap of Roswell, Yvonne Beitzel of Nevada, Crystal (Pete) Schandel of Gnadenhutten, Roxanne (Marc) Lautenschleger of Dover, Brian (Paula) Belknap of Wyoming, Brett (Jami) Belknap of New Philadelphia and Brock (Kim) Belknap of Texas, and; 24 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and a brother, Ray Belknap of Roswell.

Robert was preceded in death his parents, his wife, and his siblings, Judy, Ted and Dave.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Robert’s life will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
