Robert “Bob” Fox, age 83, of Iowa City, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025, at his residence under hospice care following a decline in health.
Celebration of life services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City with Chaplain Tim Chavers officiating. Calling hours will begin 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa, where the family will be present to receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will take place at a later date at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville, Iowa. Bob was born on January 23, 1942, in Buffalo, New York, the son of Dr. Wallace and Frances (Stearns) Fox. He graduated from Hamburg High School in Hamburg, New York, and went on to attend Wooster College in Ohio. Bob served honorably in the United States Navy as a sonar operator. After his service, he returned to Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Engineering. On June 24, 1978, Bob married Mary Lord in Iowa City, Iowa.
Bob called Iowa City home for most of his adult life. He owned and operated Telephone Consultants, Inc., where he designed and implemented the telephone structures in many Iowa towns, including Davenport. Bob later established Preston Enterprises to manage property assets in the Iowa City area and also owned Diversified Properties to assist in managing the Preston Enterprises properties.
In 1989, Bob purchased an island in Minnesota and enjoyed developing the property. Bob was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the University of Iowa Athletics Department President’s Club and proudly held Hawkeye football season tickets for over 50 years. He was a fan of the Buffalo Bills and enjoyed watching Formula One racing. Bob also loved to travel, visiting all seven continents, and was proud of his extensive car collection.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Fox, and son, Brian Fox, both of Iowa City, Iowa.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
