Richard “Dick” Edward Meyn, 81, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. There will be no visitation. The family will having a private graveside service at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Dick was born May 1, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Libbie (Loukota) Meyn.

He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1960 and then served in the U.S. Army for two years from 1962 to 1964. He worked as a mold operator for Cryovac and then as a surveyor rodman for Hall & Hall Engineers until he retired.

Dick’s favorite times were fishing with his nephews and looked forward each year to taking them to the Fish-O-Rama at Ellis Park. He loved spending time with all of his nieces and nephews as he never married and loved kids. He liked going mushroom hunting and gathering walnuts. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs and the Denver Broncos.

One of his favorite memories was helping decorate his house for the holidays each year. He especially enjoyed decorating for Christmas and won many city contests for the most colorful and best use of lights.

Survivors include his sister, Mary (Frank) Gardner of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Cheri (Bill) Meyn of Denver, Colo., and Betty (George) Meyn of Spring Grove, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bill Meyn and George Meyn.
