Pomposo Mendez
Pomposo Mendez, age 92 of Plano, IL for over 50 years, was called Home to be with God surrounded by his loving and devoted family on Friday, April 8, 2022. He was born on October 23, 1929 in Durango, Mexico the son of Jesus and Merced (Nevarez) Mendez.
Pomposo was united in marriage on December 24, 1951 to Valeriana Corral and they spent the next 70 years happily together. Mr. Mendez was a member of the Assembly of God church in Plano, IL. He was employed until his retirement as a Ground Keeper by Caterpillar, Inc. in Montgomery, IL. Pomposo was most proud of his family and devotion to serving God. His contagious smile, happy outlook and enthusiasm for life inspired many. Pomposo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother and uncle who was dearly loved and will be tremendously missed by all who knew him.
Pomposo is survived by his beautiful wife, Valeriana Mendez of Plano, IL; his children, Herminda (Ceferino) Arreola of Hanover Park, IL, Jesus (Angelita) Mendez of Plano, IL, Juan (Magdalena) Mendez of Sandwich, IL, Elizabeth (Jose Angel) Avila of Plano, IL, Misael (Yolanda) Mendez of Earlville, IL, Saul (Rosa) Mendez of Plano, IL, Neftali Mendez of Plano, IL and Sylvia (Arnoldo) Martinez of Plano, IL; his 17 grandchildren; his 13 great-grandchildren; his 2 great-great-grandchildren; his brothers, Tiburcio Mendez, Luis Mendez, Francisco Mendez, Apolonio Mendez and Guillermo Mendez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Merced Mendez; his siblings, Concepcion Mendez, Marcelino Mendez, Juan Mendez, Alfredo Mendez, Augustina Mendez Ramirez and Lucia Mendez; also one great-grandchild at birth, Tajai Wynn.
A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 West South Street, Plano, IL. Interment will follow in the Little Rock Township Cemetery in Plano, IL.
Friends may visit from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at the Funeral Home in Plano, IL.
