Peter M. Novak, Jr.

Peter M. Novak, Jr.

Peter M. Novak, Jr. was born June 15, 1938 in Chicago to Peter M. and Matilda (Wojtynek) Novak, Sr.  He passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 17, 2022 in Delavan, Wisconsin.

With a mischievous sideways grin, Peter always said “Have as much fun as you can get away with.” He was loved by many and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially when a meal was shared. He truly savored his bride’s cooking their entire marriage. She made “world class famous meatloaf and mashed potatoes.” No matter what meal she prepared he would say, “this one is in the top 10.” He enjoyed vacationing with family in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, the beaches of St. Pete Beach, Florida, cross country train travel, and road trips near and far.

Peter entertained many. He had a confident swagger, always had a joke to share, loved to laugh and gave great hugs. So many people commented Peter was just so funny and a pleasure to be around.

Peter was both a mechanic and salesman for Gateway Chevrolet in Chicago for many years. He also owned a few gas stations with repair stalls, and then opened Novak’s Norwood Garage in Norwood Park. He transitioned into his retirement in Walworth WI running a successful sharpening business called Super Sharp. But Peter was no ordinary auto mechanic. His love for cars was so much more than just a job. He enjoyed building, racing, showing, selling, and repairing cars throughout his long life.

Peter never met an Oak Tree he did not love, even when it blocked the 3rd stall of his pole barn.  He said, “drive around the tree.” Peter and Beverly bought their property in Wisconsin to be surrounded by nature, and that they were. They lived in a forest with visiting turkey, deer, skunks, and thousands of birds and butterflies. This location gave Peter the opportunity to share his joy of nature with his kids and grandkids.

A legend has fallen – husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by all.

Peter is survived by his bride Beverly Ann (Cada) Novak, whom he married on July 11, 1959 in Chicago; his children Peter M. Novak, III, Kimberly (Eric) Christiansen, and Lisa (Bruce) Voss; grandchildren Stephanie (Matthew) Rohde, Natalie (Tim) Hoff, Nicholas (Alexandria) Voss, Matilin Novak, Laura Voss, and Allissa (Reid) Solheim; great grandson Nolan Rohde.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Daniel Peter (Bette) Novak.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 137 Dewey Ave., Fontana from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass at 11:30 AM. Burial will be private.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Pete and Beverly’s home immediately following Mass.
