Paul R. Nika

Paul R. Nika, 83, of Springfield died at 5:20 pm, January 21, 2022 at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. He was born September 14, 1938 in Springfield to August and Anna (Ciesler) Nika. He married Judy Tuxhorn and she preceded him in death December 1, 2020.

He is survived by two daughters, Janet Lynn (Randy) Funk of Arkansas and Constance Sue (Todd) Ward of Rochester; two grandchildren, Samantha Nicole and Jacob Wayne Ward; two sisters, Helen (Merle) Branham of Springfield, Lois (Gene) Cory of Rochester; two brothers, Bob (Gloria) Nika of Springfield and Jack (Ann) Nika of Chatham and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Paul Nika, Jr.; two sisters, Leona Tertel and Anna Nika and a brother, Fred Nika.

Paul was a lifelong resident of Springfield. In his younger years he was employed at Vancil Memorial Home. He retired as a truck driver for the Illinois State Journal-Register after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield. Paul lived at St. Joseph’s Home for many years and the family wishes to thank all the nurses for the care shown to him while there.

Paul always had a smile on his face and helped others whenever he could. He was truly a servant to others.

Visitation: 10-11:30 am, Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Greg Busboom officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
