Patricia Ann Bichsel

Patricia Ann Bichsel, age 91, of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 9, 2022 in Park Village Southside at New Philadelphia after a period of declining health.

Born in Columbus on July 1, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Loyal Hawkins and Clara M. (Hess) Mortley.

Patti graduated from Columbus North High School in 1949. She continued her formal education at The Ohio State University, where she received a combined Bachelor of Science in Education and Dental-hygiene degree in 1953. Following graduation, she became an instructor in the Dental Hygiene department of the OSU College of Dentistry.

At OSU, she met her future husband, the late William J. Bichsel, Jr. On St. Patrick’s Day of 1956, they were wed and later were blessed with the birth of 6 children.

Patti devoted her life to caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren whom she adored. Locally, was a member of the Tourist Club of Tuscarawas County and the Union Hospital Auxiliary. She also enjoyed volunteering at the hospital gift shop Share-a-Christmas and delivering Mobile Meals with Bill.

Patti will be deeply missed by her children, Mary Beth (Ray) Markley and Bill (Dru) Bichsel III, all of New Philadelphia, Brian (Chris) Bichsel of Westerville, Mark (Sandy) Bichsel of Powell, Barbara (Don) Ferren of Charlotte, NC, and Mike Bichsel of Lexington; her grandchildren, Darcie (Elliot), Emily (Zach), Josh, Jennifer (Andrew), Dan (Christlin), Tommy, Jack, Stephen, Laura, Justin, Clara, Janie, Allison, Patrick, and Gavin; great-grandchildren, Carter, Gracyn, Noah, Laini, Henry and James; her dog, Charlie and her siblings, Rusty (Gina) Mortley and Donna Clawson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022 from 10:30-11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where Patti’s nephew, Father Tyron Tomson will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart beginning at 11:00AM. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.

Memorial contributions in Patti’s memory may be directed to Sacred Heart Church, 139 Third St NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia.
