Officer Edward L. Stewart

Officer Edward L. Stewart

Officer Edward Lee Stewart was called home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2021.

He attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, West Virginia, and graduated in 1978. A faithful servant to his country and community, Edward served 14 years in the United States Air Force as an Administrative Specialist and Special Courier. He met the love of his life, Lisa, during his military tenure.

Affectionately known to his family as “Pop Stu,” his wealth of love and patience seemed unending. His relentless enthusiasm was a catalyst to rearing his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Stu was a 27-year veteran of the Akron Police Department. He was widely known for his skillful ability to apprehend suspects and recover misappropriated property due to his photographic memory. Stu built a positive rapport with people; he was not a respecter of persons and treated everyone with dignity and respect. He not only had a law enforcement family, but he also had a family in the community, especially with Giant Eagle. Officer Stewart often dedicated his leadership and presence to Akron North High School regularly before his responsibilities with APD. Edward will always be known for his wisdom, dedication, commitment, and most importantly, his love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Gorgeous Stewart, and brother, Michael Stewart.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 35 extraordinary years Lisa Stewart; 2 sons, Jason and Leland; 2 grandsons, Carter and Mehki; brothers, LeRoy Stewart, John (Catherine) Stewart, Kenneth (Edith) Stewart, Jeremiah (Anissa) Stewart, Curtis (Patty) Stewart, Joseph (Jennifer) Stewart; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Sellers; sisters, Gloria Stewart and Margarita A. Ceesay along with many other family members and friends.
