Neva Louise Anderson Lanning, 99, of Marion, Iowa, entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Alburnett United Methodist Church, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Lafayette Cemetery in Alburnett, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.

Neva is survived and lovingly remembered by sister-in-law, Shirley Lanning of Alburnett; brother-in-law, Don Hein of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and also longtime caregiver and friend, Mary Goad.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 58 years, Donald Laverne Lanning; one daughter, Donna Louise, who died at birth; sister, Bernice (Kenneth) Koch; sister, Bernita (Beverly) Butters; sister-in-law, Juanita (Leonard) Miller; brother-in-law, Richard Lanning; sister-in-law, Betty Hein; brother-in-law, Harold (Gerry) Lanning; nephew, Donald Koch who died in World War II; niece, Irma Jean Koch; nephew, Boyd Butters; and niece, Bebe Butterfield.

Neva was born Aug. 17, 1923, at her home near Alburnett, the daughter of Edward C. and Mabel Cynthia Benson Anderson. She attended school in Alburnett, graduating with the class of 1941. Neva married Donald LaVerne Lanning on Aug. 29, 1946. She was employed by the Linn Agricultural Conservation Office (ASCS) for 20 years, earning awards for her service. Neva was baptized in the Evangelical United Brethren Church and was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church after the two churches merged. She taught Sunday school and played piano for services. She was a lifetime member of the Alburnett Historical Society. Neva made over one hundred lap robes as a member of the Center Point Sewing Circle. They were distributed to nursing homes and hospitals. She made many quilts for nieces and nephews. Neva and Donald farmed in the Center Point area for many years. She enjoyed gardening and canning the produce. Neva remained on the farm following his death in 2004, at which time she later moved to town. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
