Jack was born in Andrews, Texas, on Andrews Air Force Base, April 9, 1958.  He was the only child of Barbra Heidelberg Sawyer and Jack Harold Sawyer.  He spent his early childhood in Alaska, attending Northern Lights Elementary.  Jack’s father died when Jack was just 7 years old.  At this point, he and his mother returned to Texas.  Jack may have lost his father early, but not before developing a passion for the aircraft his father worked on.  Jack was further influenced by his stepfather, Earl Scott, who was an aircraft pilot.  Both these great men contributed heavily to the man Jack would become.

Jack was a lifelong learner and loved to teach others what he knew.  According to his grandsons, “if he was talking, he was teaching.”  Jack graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1976 and the Community College of the Air Force in 1980.  He continued his education, graduating from TXI School of Continuing Education in 2000, and The National Fluid Power Institute in 2001.  He obtained multiple certificates in the areas of mechanics and hydraulics.

Jack was a perfectionist in many ways.  This led him to be very conscious of safety and the many elements that went into keeping those who worked with aircraft and heavy machinery safe.  He also applied these same principles to the cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, and homes of his family.  You only had to mention something wasn’t quite right and Jack was on it, regardless of the pain in his back or time of day.  This passion for safety led him to get his Red Cross First Aid and CPR instructor’s license.  He spent 10 years teaching others these skills.

Jack was a dedicated employee, seldom calling in sick and always willing to fight for the highest standards in quality and safety.  Jack pursued his passion for safety and heavy machinery mechanics at TXI Red River Sand & Gravel and Martin Marietta as a Master Mechanic and Safety Coordinator.  Jack found his dream job in January of 2019 at Lockheed Martin, working on the F-35 Lightning II Aircraft, as a Master Aircraft Mechanic A.

However, if you asked Jack what he was most proud of, he would have said giving his life to Christ.  Jack was baptized into the family of Jesus Christ in 2009 and became an Ordained Baptist Minister in 2017.  Jack was a Youth Leader at Joplin Baptist Church.  He was blessed to have officiated the marriage ceremony of Zack Nelms and his bride and the funeral of his beloved mother, Barbra Scott.

Jack is survived by his wife, Chetta Sawyer; daughter, Brandie Randall; stepdaughter and her husband, Shello and Joseph Tabb; grandchildren, Skyler Hayes and wife, Chelsea, Jonathan Walton, Alexis Mask, Chris Coelho, and Caleb Randall; great-grandchildren, Abel Hayes and Leia Coelho; and stepsisters, Deborah Jensen and Melissa Silva. He was preceded in death by his father Jack Sawyer, mother Barbra Scott, stepson Reef Mask, and very recently his stepfather, Earl Scott.

Join Jack’s family for a celebration of his life Monday, December 12, 2022 at Joplin Baptist Church, at 11461 Hwy 199, Bridgeport, TX 76426. Lunch will be served at noon. The visitation will begin at 1:00 and the service at 2:00. Jack will be laid to rest Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague, Texas at 1:00.
