Mildred Jean Harden

Mildred Jean Harden

Our Family sadly lost a strong pillar when Mildred Jean Harden, age 91, passed away of complications related to cancer.

Mildred was educated in the Cleveland Public Schools System. She met Roscoe Harden of Eatonton, GA in 1945. They were married for 52 years and so close that they could finish each other’s sentences. To this union 3 daughters were born, Sandra Austin, Linda Gay, and Sharon Smith.  Mildred was a tireless worker and great provider.  In addition to keeping a spotless home and making sure there was plenty of home cooked food, she worked fulltime for a combined 34 years at Huron Road Hospital and University Hospitals of Cleveland in various secretarial positions.

Mildred was a devout Christian, follower of Jesus Christ and prayer warrior.  She looked forward to Sunday morning services and worked in the Church in a variety of ways including the Usher Board, Pastor’s Aide Society, Prayer Team, Sunday School teacher and Children’s Ministry. Mildred was also a generous financial supporter of the Church and a lifelong tither.  She liked to say that “we can’t beat God giving”.

Another of Mildred’s favorite sayings was, “God didn’t make but one Roscoe and he was my best friend”.  After Roscoe passed, Mildred continued to ‘talk’ to him regularly.  She liked to say that we should not worry that she was talking to Roscoe, we could, however, worry if he started talking back.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and the love of her life, Roscoe.

She leaves to forever cherish her memory: three daughters, Sandra, Linda, and Sharon (Sherman); her sister Patricia Sharpe; her grandchildren: Paul, Deland (Darnell), Alicia (Hugh), Shavonne, Sherman (Toccara) and Brandon; nine great-grandchildren: Deland II, Destiny, Dasan, Daeh, Isaiah, Sherman, Diem, Thomas Roscoe and Ronan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loving and dedicated church families in Cleveland, OH and Atlanta, GA.

We will miss her.

Humbly Submitted
