Matthew John Moats

Matthew John Moats, 51, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 29, 2021.

He was born August 15, 1969, in Mansfield, Ohio, to George Lewis and Janet Eileen (Tuttle) Moats Sr. Matt was a 1988 graduate of Lexington High School where he was a four-year varsity letter winner in wrestling. He worked at various car dealerships in the area as a salesman. Matt also worked as a cook at Malabar Farm. He attended Resurrection Parish and served as an altar boy in his youth. Matt enjoyed going to races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and camping.

He is survived by his father, George Moats Sr. and brother, Andrew (Emelie) Moats of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his mother and two brothers, George Lewis Moats Jr. in 2017 and Gregory Lewis Moats in 2019.

The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Robertson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Resurrection Parish.
