Mary Pauline Etre, 51, a longtime resident of Coralville, passed away on March 30, 2023. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend with a heart that knew no bounds.

Mary graduated from West High School and received her B.S. in education from the University of Iowa. She dedicated her career to helping students seek medical care at the university’s Student Health Service, where she started as a volunteer over 30 years ago.

She was proud of her father and mother’s heritage, and her most treasured trips included visiting Lebanon and Norway. She was devoted to her family and a doting aunt to her nephews, constantly showering them with love and affection.

Her kind and caring nature extended beyond her family, as she was known for her extraordinary kindness and willingness to help those in need. She had a passion for volunteering and eagerness to donate and was an active member at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

Mary enjoyed scrapbooking and creating personalized gifts such as blankets and cards. She relaxed doing puzzles, crosswords, and her favorite, Sudoku. Mary had an unwavering love for the Hawkeyes; she cheered on all sports, especially the Iowa women’s basketball team. She loved photographing and capturing special moments and preserving her family’s history. She was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew her, and her absence will be deeply felt.

Her memory lives on with her parents, Paul and Lois; her two brothers, George (Vita) and David (Maite); and nephew and niece, Jordan and Taytum. Her legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire us all.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers or donations, please hug someone you love and tell them how special they are to you.
