Mary Kathleen “Kay” Beinhart, 80, of Harper, passed away on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Kay was born March 18, 1942, in Iowa County, to Lloyd and Margaret (Healey) Pope and graduated from Deep River-Millersburg High School. On April 23, 1963, she married Robert J. Beinhart at St. Bernard Catholic Church. The couple lived in Harper, where Kay worked as a CNA at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and then Modine in Washington for 27 years. Kay was currently working as a teacher’s associate at Keota High School. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and served on the Harper City Council. A giving, big-hearted person who was willing to try almost anything, Kay enjoyed her grandchildren, helping kids, riding her bicycle and visiting with everyone.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of Harper; six children, Billie Jo (Tom) Hotchkiss of South English, Robert (Sheryl) Beinhart Jr. of Iowa City, Brad (Janet) Beinhart of Harper, Bryan (Amy) Beinhart of Riverside, Beverly (Rick) Conrad of Harper and Barbara (Scott) Shifflett of Webster; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; five brothers, LeRoy (Vicki) Pope of Millersburg, John Pope of Cedar Rapids, Bill Pope of Millersburg, Tom (Barb) Pope of Ladora and Terry (Deb) Pope of Millersburg; and two sisters, Janet (Denny) Kuennon of St. Lucas and Sheila (Buddy) Bills of Kellogg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Paul Pope; and two nephews.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with the Rev. Robert Lathrop presiding. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries-St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the church, where there will be a vigil service at 3:30 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or Keota Schools to be used for ongoing costs in the special education department.
