Mary Jo Pirc, 79, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023. Mary Jo was born Nov. 27, 1943, in Oelwein, Iowa. She moved to Marquette, Iowa, where she worked at the Marquette Hardware Plumbing and Heating. She also worked for 23 years at the Casino Queen Marquette. Mary Jo graduated from Coe College with her bachelor’s degree in business and as a certified CPA. She also had her pilot’s license and Realtor license.
Mary Jo lived life to the fullest and always kept busy. She loved the Mississippi River and was proud of Marquette. She also had a passion for serving her community, working flea markets, she spent many years developing the Action Club, she loved to travel, and spend time with the bowling girls and Marie Bunders.
Mary Jo is survived by sister, Sharon Kirby of Cedar Rapids; nephew, Rick (Sandy) Kirby of Harpers Ferry; niece, Cindy (Kevin) McFeely of Seattle; six great-nieces and -nephews, Nick (Samantha) Kirby, Felecia (Chris) Halverson, Jordan, Bryce McFeely, Candace (Eric) Watson, and Justin (Dana) Happel; 12 great-great-nieces and -nephews, Olivia, Isabelle, Connor, Carson (Kirby), Cole (Halverson), Kylie, Brianna, Kullen, Leone, and Harlynn (Watson), Eva, Mason (Happel).
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her mother Pat and father Ralph Pirc; brother-n-law, George Kirby; niece, Brenda Happel; aunt, Laura Pirc; and uncles, Jerry and Francis Pirc.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Country House for going above and beyond to care for Mary Jo.
A celebration of life will be held at the Marquette Unity Center on Nov. 26, from 1 to 3 p.m.
