Marlene Rose Turner, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, July 23, 2023, at her home. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Nick March. Burial: St. Patrick and St. Paul Cemetery, Watkins. A vigil will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may then visit with the family from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Tuesday, at the church.
Marlene is survived by her son, Michael (Cheryl) Nolte of Watkins; daughter, Diana Jones (Keith Wernimont) of Monticello; granddaughter, Aimee (Steve) Clemmons of Monticello; six sisters, Carolyn Chittick (Gene Hines) of Marion, Joyce Miller of Solon, Anita (Dennis) Kimm of Marengo, Barb (Gary) Volesky of Newhall, Mary (Ron) Wilhelmi of Atkins and Laurie (Jeff) Becker of Marengo; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Nolte, Larry Gardner and Gary Turner; grandson, Nicholas Jones; sister, Dorothy Ann Zaugg; and several brothers and sisters in-law.
Marlene was born on June 20, 1943, in rural Norway, daughter of Orville and Lorene Schulte Blankman. She attended St. Michael Catholic School, Norway and graduated from Norway Community High School. Marlene married Charles Nolte on Nov. 15, 1966, he died in 1975; Larry Gardner on Oct. 17, 1977, he died in 1980; and Gary Turner in Nashville, Tenn., on June 3, 2003, he died in 2016. She was a press operator at Amana Whirlpool and also worked at J.C. Penney. Marlene was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge.
Marlene loved to read, listen to country music and visit local spots to sing Karaoke. She also liked to visit with family and friends, travel and attend church services. Marlene will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
