Mark Allan Higgin

Mark Allan Higgins, 90, was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was born in Gretna, La., where he met his future wife Sheila Atkinson at a morning service in the Gretna Presbyterian Church.

He studied at Tulane University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 1951.

Shortly after graduating, he shipped off to California to Army bootcamp. He served in the Chemical Corps from 1952-54.

He worked as a research chemist for American Cyanamid after leaving the Army. In his telling, he helped engineer Cyalume ChemLight, the ubiquitous safety light stick, for mass production. He was also involved with many other products the company offered in the marketplace.

He retired in 1992, and two years later moved with his wife to Hood County.

He is survived by wife, Sheila Atkinson Higgins, and daughters Betty Jane H. Milewski, of Granbury, Meg Montesino (David Montesino), and Ellen Bebee (Larry Bebee), of Florida. He is also survived by niece, Barbara Wilkenson, nephew David Higgins, granddaughter, Adrienne Ione, and grandson Christopher Bebee. He was predeceased by a sister Betty Jane Higgins, brother Leonard Conrad Higgins, M.D., and his wife Gene, and a son-in-law, Henry Milewski.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM. Saturday; March 6, 2021 at Holly Hills Memorial Park under the direction of Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury.
