Marjorie “Marge” Louise Gorsuch, 91, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at The Views Senior Living of Marion. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends from 10 – 11 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, where a Memorial Service will begin at 11 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Marge was born on December 2, 1932, in rural Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of William Lee and Margaret G. (Goodwin) Boone. She was a graduate of Blakesburg High School in Blakesburg, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Donald James Spurgin and to this union, four children were born. They later divorced. On September 25, 1982, Marge was united in marriage to Thomas Harry Gorsuch in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death in June of 1998. Marge worked various jobs in healthcare but mostly as a homemaker for her family. She enjoyed music, square-dancing, flowers, birds, and butterflies. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Marge will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marge is survived and lovingly remembered by her four children, Patti Peterson of Cedar Rapids, David Spurgin (Virginia Strabino) of Marion, Kathy (Duane) Turner of Cedar Rapids, and Cheryl (Ken) Holub of Marion; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dave Butterbaugh of Washington, Iowa; and two stepchildren, Marsha Schaefbauer of Eldridge, Iowa, and Thomas Gorsuch Jr. of Davenport, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 13 siblings; one grandson, Barry; and one stepdaughter, Sandy.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff at The Views of Marion and everyone with Above and Beyond Hospice for the love, care, and support they gave Marge during her stay and final days.
