LaVonne (Hanson) Furman, 97, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, after a long and beautiful life. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. LaVonne chose to be cremated and the family will have a private burial service at a later date.

LaVonne was born on Sept. 20, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, to Louis and Emma (Kretchmar) Hanson. She graduated from Roosevelt High School. LaVonne married Floyd Weis and they had three children together who include Terry Weis of Cedar Rapids, Lorri Hughes of Palo and Julli (John) Thomas of Marion. LaVonne and Floyd later divorced. She married Walter H. Furman on Dec. 12, 1958, in Oklahoma City, Okla. Together they had two children Danny (Kathleen) Furman of Marion and Walter Furman II of Hawaii.

LaVonne is also survived by eight grandchildren, Tracy Hughes, Jessica Chensvold, Jacob Thomas, Grant Furman, Rachel Waters, Michael Weis and McKayla Elston; and 12 great-grandchildren.

LaVonne joins grandson Shannan Hughes in heaven.

LaVonne loved tending to her garden and fishing, especially on the Mississippi River, where she and Walt had a cabin for many years in North Buena Vista.
