Larry D. Smith
Larry D. Smith, age 77, a lifelong resident of Plano, IL passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at his home, with his loving wife by his side. He was born on February 3, 1944 in Sandwich, IL the son of Guy and Hazel (Brainerd) Smith.
Larry was united in marriage on June 8, 1974 to Kathleen Neal and they have spent the next 47 years happily together. He was employed for 15 years with Cooper Industries in Naperville, IL. Mr. Smith was at one time, the Industrial Arts Teacher and the Golf Coach at both Plano High School in Plano, IL and later at Plainfield High School in Plainfield, IL. He was proud to have been inducted into the Plano High School Hall of Fame in 2011. Larry loved golfing and was a longtime member of the Cedardell Golf Club in Plano, IL. Larry was a loving husband, step-father, step-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Larry is survived by his wife, Kathleen Smith of Plano, IL; his step-son, David Chapman of Dyer, IN; his step-grandchildren, Justin (Christy) Chapman of Hebron, MD and Sara Chapman of Hebron, MD; his brothers, Ed Smith of Plano, IL, and Jack (Joan) Smith of Pleasant Valley, NY; his sister-in-law, Joanne Smith of Sandwich, IL; his brothers-in-law, Clarence Holdiman of Yorkville, IL, and Don (Cindy) Neal of Des Plaines, IL, Bill Neal of Tucson, AZ; his 15 nieces and nephews; also several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Hazel Smith; his brother, Don Smith; his sister, Sandy Holdiman; also his two nephews, Peter and Brian Smith.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
A Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, December 10, 2021 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 West South Street, Plano, IL with Reverend Richard Lundgren, officiating. Interment will be private.
Friends may visit from 4:00 pm until the Hour of Service on Friday, December 10, 2021 at the Funeral Home in Plano, IL.
